As much love an animal can give us, they expect the same in return. They certainly deserve unlimited love and respect. But many of them get the opposite. Some are leashed at a corner as a pet, while others are abused. And we hope authority punishes those that are caught doing so.
In Alabama, a 30-year-old man, Nick Patterson, neglected and starved 14 dogs for days. The report states it to be the worst incident of animal abuse ever registered.
He leased these purebred Collies outdoors on his grandparents’ property, starved them and with only dirty rainwater to drink. According to the reports, he admitted nine counts of animal abuse. Upon further investigation, the man also had three counts of financial transaction card fraud.
He was later on sentenced to 99 years of prison time under the charges of animal cruelty. Moreover, the man is eligible for parole only after a minimum of 18 years of prison time. Damon Lewis, an assistant district attorney, hopes the charges will send a message to local residents.
“This has been an emotional case and one that involved some of the worst animal abuse I have ever seen,” he said, “If you hurt a child or hurt an animal in Tallapoosa County, you are going to prison. It’s that simple.”
Furthermore, Patterson is not allowed to own an animal ever again.
